The COVID-19 pandemic changed life on the planet in many different ways. It altered how we interacted with other individuals and disrupted how countless industries conducted business. Included in this disruption was the field of education. During the pandemic, many schools closed the doors to their physical buildings and began teaching students virtually. The results of virtual school included a loss in student academic achievement and an increase in the technology skills of both students and teachers. The proposed innovation contained in this executive position paper intends to capitalize on the gains in technological skills to mitigate the academic losses in student achievement. For years, the School District of Philadelphia has successfully been utilizing its reading specialists to enhance the literacy skills of district students. Reading specialists use evidence-based strategies to obtain favorable results in student learning; however, the students' access to these specialists has been greatly limited. If the district uses the best practices of distance learning to have reading specialists deliver reading interventions online, more students will be exposed to these proven beneficial approaches.
