This Writing for Policy training series is open to researchers in the first 7 years of their professional careers. Please plan to attend all 4 sessions- the sessions are sequenced and each builds on the prior session.

Facilitators
Laura Booker, Ph.D.
Laura teaches courses on program evaluation, evidence-based decision making, and research methods. She has served as the Executive Director of the Tennessee Education Research Alliance since May 2022. Laura worked for six years at the Tennessee Department of Education, where she led the research team and served as a broker for several research-practice partnerships. Laura completed her Ph.D. in Education Policy at Vanderbilt University as an Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Fellow, where her dissertation focused on measuring the quality of instructional practices. Laura has a B.A. from the University of Alabama and a M.P.P. from Vanderbilt University.
Nate Schwartz, Ph.D.
Nate Schwartz is the Director of Applied Research and a Professor of the Practice at Brown University's Annenberg Institute for School Reform. In 2020, he co-founded the EdResearch for Recovery initiative, which collects requests for pandemic-related research guidance from education leaders and identifies teams of researchers across the country to build out quick-response evidence synthesis. Schwartz previously held a position as the chief research and strategy officer for the Tennessee Department of Education. In this role, he led the department’s research and strategic planning teams, contributing to the launch of Tennessee Succeeds. He started his career as a high school physics teacher
